LIVING A BALANCED LIFE

If you want to achieve true success in life, you must take steps to ensure you maintain a certain level of balance... spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, mentally and financially.

When was the last time you sat down and honestly assessed these six major areas of your life?

Creating a "Life Balance Sheet for Success", in each of these all-so-important areas of your life, is a great first step toward living a truly balanced life.

By doing so, you are able to make an honest determination about where you are now in this moment, as well as where you want to be in the future.

LIFE BALANCE SHEET FOR SUCCESS

We all understand that when assessing our personal finances it is important to prepare a financial balance sheet. By listing our debits and credits on this financial balance sheet we are able to determine our bottom line.

If you want to achieve true success in life, you must take steps to ensure you maintain a certain level of balance... spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, mentally and financially. This financial bottom line tells us if we are moving forwards or backwards financially. More specifically it is an accurate indicator of whether we are moving in the direction of achieving our financial objectives or not!

How could we apply this same "balance sheet principle" to determine our state of affairs in other areas of our lives, such as spiritually, emotionally, socially, physically and mentally?

The answer is really very simple – prepare yourself a Life Balance Sheet to help you determine how your affairs in these important life areas are serving you or hindering you?

CREATING A LIFE BALANCE SHEET FOR SUCCESS IN LIFE

Whether you know how to prepare a financial balance sheet or not, creating a Life Balance Sheet is easy... simply make a list of all your current lifestyle debits.

List Your Lifestyle Debits

Lifestyle debits are those mental, emotional, social, spiritual, physical and financial choices we make and actions we take that detract in some way from our overall life balance. These choices and actions are things such as the following:

  1. Procrastinating on things you know you need to get done.
  2. Sitting in front of the TV instead of being productive or doing something of value.
  3. Not getting enough exercise.
  4. Eating inappropriately and paying the consequences.
  5. Being a coach potato when there is so much more you could be doing.
  6. Staying involved in a toxic personal relationship.
  7. Maintaining relationships that drain you emotionally, mentally, socially, spiritually, physically or financially.
  8. Being unwilling or refusing to listen effectively to others.
  9. Getting into arguments you know you don't need to be involved in.
  10. Passing judgment on others when you know it is inappropriate to do so.
  11. Taking family, friends, coworkers and others around you for granted.
  12. Taking too little time to yourself, to just sit and contemplate, meditate and relax.
  13. Not enough reading or other mental stimulation.
  14. Constantly complaining and being negative.
  15. Failing to say NO when NO is the right choice right Now.
  16. Expecting the worst instead of expecting the best life has to offer.
  17. Expecting the worst from others.
  18. Being ungrateful when you have so much to be grateful for.
  19. Letting things get you down, then using that as an excuse to eat, drink or smoke for immediate gratification.
  20. Staying up too late at night and not getting enough rest.

There could be any number of lifestyle debits on your list and everyone's list is going to be individual to them.

List Your Lifestyle Credits

The next part of the Life Balance Sheet is your list of lifestyle credits

Lifestyle credits are the ways you live your life that you truly value because they support and honor your chosen path and move you towards your desires. Basically, anything you do on a consistent basis that is positive will go on your list of lifestyle credits.

Here are just a few examples of some lifestyle credits, that if they were on your list, would add to your Life Balance Sheet's Bottom Line.

  1. Call someone you know just to say “hello” and to see how they are doing.
  2. Walking barefoot in the grass or on the beach.
  3. Expressing your Higher Self by telling someone “I love you”.
  4. Helping and giving of yourself to others with no expectation of receiving anything in return.
  5. Doing things that are outside of your comfort zone on a reasonably regular basis.
  6. Driving traffic friendly by allowing others to merge into traffic even if they didn't wait their turn.
  7. Compliment others as you go about your day, whether they are nice to you or not.
  8. Take time out for exercise and play.
  9. Staying clean, sober and smoke free.
  10. Spending time with a child, even if you don't have one of your own.
  11. Being honest about what you need in order to feel whole and happy
  12. Taking time to read a book to a child.
  13. Taking time to nourish your soul by reading a few lines from a good book.
  14. Playing your favorite music and dancing around the room and singing to it out loud.
  15. Picking up someone else's litter instead of stepping over it or walking around.
  16. Learning at least one new skill or hobby each week.
  17. Keeping a morning gratitude journal and giving thanks for the things you value on a daily basis.
  18. Spending that little extra on something you really, really like, even if it isn't on sale.
  19. Smiling to others, and yourself, as you go about your day, especially people you don't know.
  20. Looking others straight in the eye and saying thank you.

As with the lifestyle debits, there could be any number of lifestyle credits on your list and everyone's list is going to be individual to them.
